Who can join the HSLJ PTO?Any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in loco parentis (Latin for “in the place of a parent”) for a student at the school may be a member and shall have voting rights. The principal and any teacher employed at the school may be a member and have voting rights. Members have one vote per household. How do I become an HSLJ PTO member?To sign up to become a member, please fill out our Membership Form. We will contact you to confirm you membership. NOTE: In order to volunteer at the school, remember that you have to be VIPS-cleared by HISD. VIPS stands for Volunteers in Public Schools. To learn more about that process, click here. Volunteers must renew their VIPS-clearance every year.

Do I have to volunteer a certain number of hours each month?Membership does not require a time commitment, but we encourage every member to volunteer as your schedule allows. We have a variety of opportunities and would love to work alongside you!

Do I have to pay PTO membership dues?Membership is an optional $5 contribution per year as of the 2024-25 school year. To sign up to become a member, please fill out our Membership Form here Please pay for your Annual Membership here Dues are established by the PTO executive board. If dues are charged, a member must have paid his or her dues at least 14 calendar days before the meeting to be considered a member in good standing with voting rights. When does the PTO meet?We hold monthly virtual PTO meetings on the second Wednesday at 7 pm to discuss business, plan events and fundraisers and share ideas.
